Haikos Clean

Tidy up after AI coding tools on macOS. Every item is explained before you clean, scans stay offline, and everything goes to the Trash with Restore.

How it is built

What it is

A “storage autopilot” for developer Macs. It finds what AI coding tools, builds, caches and simulators leave behind, and explains each line: what it is, what created it, and whether it can be rebuilt.

Who it is for

Developers who work on a Mac.

Stack

Rust core (haikos-core, haikos-platform) shared by a Tauri 2 desktop app and a command-line tool.

Architecture

One Rust core does the scanning and cleaning. The desktop app and the CLI are thin layers on top. Nothing is deleted directly: cleaning moves files to the Trash, and Restore is built in. Secrets are masked, and SSH and Keychain folders are never touched.

Features

  • Offline scan with a plain explanation for every line
  • Clean to the Trash, with Restore
  • Secrets masked. SSH and Keychain folders left alone
  • Interface in English and Vietnamese (1,158 strings, EN = VI)

Quality

300+ automated tests on the Rust core. A copy-rules check stops the interface from promising speed or gigabytes saved.

Status

Live on macOS. Release channels: signed DMG, Mac App Store and Homebrew.

What we learned

Write release notes honestly, including what is not ready. Build the undo before the delete. And never let the interface promise what the app cannot measure.

Teardown: decisions and trade-offs

Questions

What does Haikos Clean do?

It finds what AI coding tools, builds, caches and simulators leave behind on a developer Mac. It explains each line: what it is, what created it and whether it can be rebuilt.

Does it upload my files?

No. Scans run offline. Developer folders hold source code and secrets, so nothing is uploaded.

Can I undo a cleanup?

Yes. Cleaning moves files to the Trash, and Restore is built in. Nothing is deleted directly. Space is freed when you empty the Trash.

Does it touch my secrets, SSH keys or Keychain?

Secrets are masked, and SSH and Keychain folders are left alone.

Where can I get it, and in which languages?

It is live on macOS as a signed DMG, on the Mac App Store and with Homebrew. The interface is in English and Vietnamese.

Who builds and supports it?

Haikotek builds, ships and supports it. It is our own software, so this page shows the stack, the trade-offs and what we learned.
